Mission

Inquiring Minds Consulting works to empower young people to think, create, and engage. We develop programs, write curriculum, lead professional development sessions, create interactive learning materials, and teach workshops for youth, particularly in the arena of youth media production. All of these services are informed by inquiry-based instructional design and youth development principles. In this way, young people develop strong critical thinking abilities, increase their literacy skills, become able to creatively articulate their thoughts and ideas, and engage with their communities.

Inquiring Minds Consulting is committed to working towards a just society in which ALL children can grow and reach without limit.

Founder, Director Bio

Inquiring Minds Consulting Founder and Director, Rebecca Renard, is an educator, youth media practitioner, and social justice advocate with over ten years of experience helping young people develop their creative voice and critical consciousness—their ability to actively construct their own knowledge, analyze or “read” the worlds around them, articulate their ideas, and envision themselves as change agents.

Before entering the field of youth media, she taught middle school in San Francisco, California, using visual arts, performing arts, and literature to help students investigate important social and historical topics.

She was the Co-Director of the Basic Documentary Workshop at Educational Video Center in New York City, using inquiry-based methods to teach high school students video production, interviewing, and research skills that they used to make social issue-based documentaries. She brought those techniques to older youth (ages 17-25) at Washington, DC's Earth Conservation Corps, where she was the Director of the Youth Media Arts Program.

She is a New York State-certified secondary social studies teacher, and has had professional training in theater, dance, visual arts, and journalism. She is a world traveler, artist, and Afro-Carribean folkloric dancer, fluent in Spanish and proficient in Portuguese.
